Does this describe YOUR Rotary Club?

Old. Male. Inflexible. Elitist. Exclusive. Secretive.

These are a few of the responses that non-Rotarians consistently gave in recent Rotary International focus groups when asked what they think of when they hear the words Rotary International or Rotary club. The participants were professional women ages 30 and above and men ages 30-45, prescreened by independent market research firms to include individuals who would satisfy the requirements for Rotary club membership.

How is YOUR CLUB raising money to Eradicate Polio?

After media mogul Ted Turner addressed a combined meeting of the Rotary clubs of Bozeman and Bozeman Sunrise, Montana, USA, in July, Bozeman Sunrise club president Ted Campbell said a donation would be made to PolioPlus in Turner’s name as an expression of thanks.
“Whatever you donate in my name for polio, I’ll match it,” responded the philanthropist and founder of CNN, who owns a ranch and restaurant in the area.
Inspired by Turner’s offer, Bozeman Rotarians raised $10,435 over a four-week period for a total of $20,850.

Youth Exchange...... and MORE!

 From the Youth Exchange Newsletter:

Homesickness: The second wave of culture shock

Rotary Youth Exchange students who departed in August are approaching their fourth month of exchange. While most are adapting to their new surroundings, some may be experiencing the effects of delayed homesickness, commonly known as the “second wave” of culture shock. Contributing factors can include difficulties learning the new language, challenges fitting in at school or in the community, and problems connecting with their host family.

Just a reminder that you can subscribe to receive RI Newsletters on this and ALL Rotary topics.  Check out this link and sign up for those that would be of interest or assistance to your Rotary goals:

Rotary Updates: Vocational, Rotaract, Polio .... and MORE

Weekly Update - 29 October 2010

Online contributions break records 18-24 October

During the week of 18-24 October, approximately US$2.8 million was raised in online contributions for PolioPlus. To honor World Polio Day on 24 October, The Rotary Foundation offered for the first time double Paul Harris Fellow recognition points for online-only contributions of US$100 or more during that week.

The results represent a significant increase in online donations. To compare, $660,000 in online donations to PolioPlus were made from January to September 2010.

As of 27 October, Rotarians have raised about $150 million for Rotary's US$200 Million Challenge. These contributions will help Rotary raise $200 million to match $355 million in challenge grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The resulting $555 million will directly support immunization campaigns in developing countries, where polio continues to infect and paralyze children, robbing them of their futures and compounding the hardships faced by their families.
