Making It Together

Your ecosystem

Seth Godin [blogmailfromseth@yahoo.com] shares with us the analogy of the acacia tree and stinging ants in the following:

The tropical acacia tree has hollow thorns, nectar and protein-producing leaves. All perfect for the stinging ants that live inside the thorns and eat the nectar and the leaves.
And what's in it for the tree? The ants keep birds and other pests away, as well as killing off small shoots that might grow into competitive trees (ht: Jerry Coyne).
The ecosystem combines two elements that can't live without one another. Each produces something the other needs.
Too often, businesses (and leaders?) focus on making it on their own. In fact, the secret of being indispensable is making it together.

We can think of the acacia tree analogy in terms of Rotary:

Lots of members don’t make a strong club…..
Big projects don’t make a stellar club……
Great PR doesn’t make a vibrant club….
Having the most Youth Exchange students or sending the most kids to RYLA doesn’t make a club effective……
Record TRF involvement doesn’t make the club outstanding……

ALL areas of Rotary –working together – make DYNAMIC clubs
